XANTHE CHANCE: MATHEMATICIAN & ADVENTURER
by Leo Kenning, Deva Argus

This is the first verified photogram we’ve had in months, sir. The girl is kept very close. A full report will be on your desk soon.

  1. How? How did they get this? Someone should have noticed! I should have noticed! There are statues and gargoyles and grotesques aplenty up on that roof and I’m on the other side of the Tower Room door! Oh, what am I to do? My poor lady… She cannot even watch the stars in peace without snoops and spies. Oh, what am I to do? Pray, gentle stranger, what do you suggest?

    1. Stop interfering with the Heavens, for one thing! There are some things we are not meant to know! Does the Office for the Promotion of Virtue know about this?

  2. Oh, my poor young lady! Who would be so harsh as to condemn her to the Office for the Preservation of Virtue? She is a sweet lady, always with a kind comment for one such as I. She searches the skies for comets and to look at the stars. What is the harm in that? And this other gentle master? If he lived where I lived above the door to the Tower Room, guarding the Minister’s very office, he would know there was grounds and enough for fuss. She is threatened! She who has rarely harmed a single creature – real or not real.
